Needed: farmland upon which to build a small and sustainable community. Near Galesburg helpful. So is a nice chunk with some option to acquire more. Some hills fine for our purposes (earth-bermed or -roofed housing, Earthship-style).

Have you looked on the Platt map along North Creek and called a few land owners?

No, I think it was a little utopian at that point. Still, I walk along the 17 acres for sale just off South Seminary Street and wonder if someone else is going to buy that, and for what purpose…. I also wonder if they know it’s got a natural gas pipeline, and a major regulation station, either on its perimeters or within its bounds — and who knows what that would do to plants in the soil ….

What’s up with North Creek? Should I be inquiring? Hmmm ….

We live along North Creek, there are a fair number of parcels along there. There are quite a few along Court Creek as well. All hilly terrrain, and a short drive from town. Keeping on eye on that area is a good idea. Laura and I bought this 80 in 1999, but spent about 2 years looking for it. It’s a good location, and close the pool at Oak Run for the kids. Seems like about once a year a chunk of ground goes to auction or comes up for sale. All told, there is around 100 sq miles of natural hilly terrain in the Court Creek watershed within a 15 mile radius of Galesburg, maybe a tad more. The old strip mines farther to the east occupy around the same amount of terrain, but they are within a 25 mile radius to the east. In general this same terrain meanders around from Dahinda, to Williamsfield in Knox County. Take a look at google earth when you get a chance.

    Rick or anybody,

How can I get lat/long coordinates of a location? With that same URL, can I enter coordinates and find out just where that point is?

    Dan
